Essential Functions & Basic Duties:


The Loan Originator will also be responsible for taking mortgage loan applications and partnering with processors to ensure complete and compliant loan packages. Daily tasks also include gathering sensitive client information, quoting rates & loan products to customers, structuring loan files, and preparing customers for the mortgage application process.  

In addition to Processors, Loan Originators can work within a mortgage team to complete high volumes of loan applications.  Loan Originators will spend their time inside office environments, various places of business, as well traveling between destinations.  

  • Interviews applicants and requests specific information for loan application. Completes applications in a timely manner and inputs applicant’s data into Encompass.
  • Orders credit reports and AUS findings on secondary market loans through the loan origination system (automated underwriting systems).
  • Analyzes applicant’s financial status; including, but not limited to, personal financial statements, tax returns, credit, and property evaluations (P+L Statements) to determine feasibility of granting credit.
  • Corresponds with or interviews applicants or creditors to resolve questions regarding application information.
  • Compiles loan packages and facilitates negotiations with applicants to establishment standards on items such as fees, loan repayment options and other credit terms.
  • Maintains minimum production requirements in accordance with Branch/Corporate policy.
  • Abides by Corporate Policy and/or Federal Regulation guidelines when discussing products, time frames, and sensitive customer or bank information.
  • Identifies and analyzes potential loan markets to develop prospects for mortgage loans.
  • Provides loan data to support marketing and sales promotion programs.
  • Represents the company at related functions.  This includes presenting product, policy, and procedure information. 
  • Assists customers with inquiries and information requests, and resolves complaints relating to loan products and services offered.
  • Obtains, verifies and completes required information and documentation necessary for compliance and processing of loan applications.
  • Follows up with requests presented by both customers of the company and internal departments in a timely manner.

  • Complete any additional duties assigned by management

Education, Qualifications, Designations and Required Skills/Experience:


  • A high school diploma or general education degree (GED) is required.
  • Intermediate knowledge of related computer applications such as Microsoft Office is required. Prior experience with Encompass or other closing software programs is required.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent is required.
  • Ability to interpret individual and business/corporate tax returns and P-L statements is required.
  • Ability to utilize all lending functions on a standard HP calendar is preferred.
  • Must be able to work before and after normal business hours, and have accommodations for local travel.
  • Valid driver’s license is required. Driving record must be in accordance with WMC’s Vehicle Safety Policy. 
  • Federal registration through Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System (NMLS) is required. Individual must be in good standing with or be approved by NMLS in accordance with the S.A.F.E Act.
