Vaccine Card Checker – Event Guest Services

Our client, a non-profit organization that drives travel to San Jose and operates city-owned venues, is seeking a vaccine card checker to ensure safety at their upcoming events.

The Vaccine Card Checker is responsible for reviewing patron documents at or around the San Jose Convention Center at the point of entrance to an event and providing verbal direction on qualification or denial of entry based on documents provided. Pre-show orientation/briefing will be provided.

The Vaccination Card Checker role is ideal for someone who wants to augment their income by working a few hours per week and has the flexibility to attend events in the afternoons and/or weekends.


  • Greet customers with a friendly attitude, providing a positive first impression by offering superior, individualized service.
  • Give friendly answers to customer questions.
  • Check that patron has a mask prior to entry or provide a complimentary mask.
  • Review and approve all required COVID-19 Compliance documents for entry.
  • Check documents to make sure they are for the proper event, event guidelines, date and time.
  • Inform patrons if they are able to enter or if they need to speak with management.
  • Provide an accurate count of patrons refused entrance.
  • Maintain control of the assigned entrance. 
  • Move people through the lines in a timely fashion. Should avoid becoming involved with in-depth conversations.
  • Report to and attend briefing meetings at beginning of shift led by the Event Services Manager onsite.
  • Be aware about performance times, ordinance in place and stricter measures if imposed.
  • Assist ushering/event staff as needed once performance begins.


  • Provide proof of being fully vaccinated.
  • Able to work 4-hour shifts starting in early evenings and/or afternoons.
  • Flexibility in scheduling, willing to work evenings, nights, weekends and some holidays.
  • Ability to multi-task, i.e., read documents, give directions, and answer questions while maintaining control of lines.
  • Speed and accuracy is crucial.
  • Ability to move people through the lines in a timely fashion.
  • Maintain a cooperative, positive attitude with clients, staff, etc.
  • Ability to be firm and persuasive when dealing with unruly guests, enforcing policy or dealing with disgruntled patrons.
  • Conflict resolution skills.
  • Excellent customer service skills, customer service job experience a plus
  • Enthusiastic, dependable, positive and on-time team player.
  • Understand written and verbal direction and communicate effectively with others.
