Senior Commercial Real Estate Accountant

Our client, a commercial real estate development and investment firm, is seeking a Senior Commercial Real Estate Accountant to join their team. This company is a large, private, family-owned firm based in Dallas, Texas. With managed business segments consisting of sports/entertainment, private equity capital, operating, energy/resources, real estate and financial service companies, this firm is well established and highly successful.

Job Summary

The Senior Accountant is responsible general ledger, sub ledger, financial reporting and projection duties for several entities, as well as any required management reporting or analysis of the assigned entities.  The Senior Accountant also supervises accounts payable, accounts receivable, fixed assets, job costing and general ledger process duties performed by the Staff Accountant assigned to assist with their respective entities.

 

Essential Functions
  • Develops management reports both within and outside of the accounting system.
  • Compiles monthly and quarterly financial statements for assigned entities in a timely manner (entities may include partnerships, limited liability companies, and various trusts).
  • Communicates with outside investment entities or operators and purchasers regarding financial information or miscellaneous correspondence.
  • Trains and supervises support positions to ensure proper procedures are being followed.
  • Compiles cash flows and income estimates for assigned entities.
  • Prepares all audit schedules for assigned entities.
  • Researches GAAP treatment on complex transactions.
  • Communicates with owners and/or management regarding financial information.
  • Assists with financial and tax audit.
  • Reviews schedules prepared by staff accountants as necessary.
  • Authorizes accounts payable to be entered and paid through the accounting system.
  • Reconciles monthly bank accounts for assigned entities.
  • Reviews accounts payable, accounts receivable, fixed assets and other sub ledgers as they relate to their assigned entities.
  • Assists with and completes special projects as requested.
  • Directs, coaches and supervises staff accountants; trains new accounting employees.
  • Assists the investment team in various ways including making forecasts and projections, processing capital calls, redemptions and subscriptions, preparing investment budgets, and calculating gains/losses on real estate investment sales.
  • Maintains confidentiality over all corporate, stakeholder, personnel and research matters.

Education, Knowledge and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
  • 5-8 years accounting experience is required.
  • CPA license strongly preferred.
  • Must have experience with general ledger processing, management reporting, accounts payable processing and implementation of internal control policies.
  • Must have strong background and understanding of computerized accounting systems including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable and financial reporting. 
  • Must possess strong software skills including Microsoft Excel and Word.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills are required in order to effectively communicate with individuals at various levels within the organization and with outside auditors.
