Controller

Our client, a diverse community-focused property management company, is looking for an analytical and pragmatic Controller to join their team!

The Controller will report to the executive director and is responsible for directing the organization’s accounting functions. They will ensure compliance with the Board of Directors policies, internal procedures, and GAAP. Prepare and present financial information to management and ensure compliance with personnel record keeping.

 

Responsibilities/Tasks:
  • Ensure effective internal controls for the organization
  • Manage tasks within finance relating to record keeping and reporting
  • Develop financial statements
  • Cash management
  • Produce audit work papers
  • Facilitate external audits, and preparation of state and federal tax returns
  • Maintain banking relationships
  • Ensure financial regulatory compliance
  • Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate accounting department staff
  • Fulfill special assignments as required by Executive Director

 

Personnel Responsibilities:
  • Develop procedures to carry out policies relating to personnel activity
  • Maintain record of benefits (medical/dental insurance, pension plans) and personnel transactions such as hires, promotions, transfers, and terminations
  • Report accidents to insurance carriers and management
  • Maintain postings and reporting in accordance with government agencies compliance requirements

 

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting
  • 7+ years of Accounting experience
  • Analytical, pragmatic, able to understand problems and propose solutions
  • Excellent Excel skills applicable to financial modeling and relational worksheets
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

 

Beneficial Experience:

Experience in any of the following is a plus but it is not required.

  • Construction accounting experience
  • Non-profit accounting experience
  • Yardi and/or Vision Point software experience
  • Residential property accounting
  • Audit and compliance reporting experience
  • Supervisory experience
  • CPA firm experience
  • Embraces team concepts
  • Paycom
  • Nonprofit experience
