Our client, a premier investment management and development firm, is seeking an experienced Compliance Specialist to join their team. This successful and growing firm is dedicated to developing multifamily projects in high growth markets while redefining urban living.


Position Summary


This Compliance Specialist is responsible for the development, implementation, and administration of the assigned portfolio. They will provide key compliance-related services while remaining in accordance with regulatory programs and agency requirements, company policy and procedures, and all applicable Fair Housing Laws.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Monitor and ensure compliance with relevant laws and agency regulations, including but not limited to fair housing, rent control, Section 8, permitting requirements, disability accommodations, and landlord-tenant relationships as they apply to the policies and procedures of the company and the community.
  • Complete periodic audits as necessary; ensure tracking tools and processes are in place, and report compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements as needed or required.
  • Facilitate due diligence activities to mitigate legal and regulatory risks; Develop and implement systems and processes for compliance related to government regulations.
  • Conduct required testing/auditing for all elements of programs and provide supporting documentation of all results; Provide updates and recommendations on additions or modifications to advance initiatives, ensure compliance, efficiency and process improvement.
  • Evaluate and implement solutions to manage and report out on key metrics and provide regular reporting for operations teams (as needed).
  • Develop and implement sustainability/compliance programs, creating presentations as needed for the appropriate client and/or operational audiences.
  • Establish, foster and maintain relationships with government contacts, external vendors and other 3rd party organizations necessary to cultivate programs that will support legal/regulatory compliance, energy and resource consumption reduction, and/or advocate sustainability to communities.
  • Monitor and ensure compliance with organizational standards and operational processes related to area(s) of responsibility and reporting violations or infractions to appropriate individual(s).
  • Identify areas for improvement and offers suggestions to improve efficiency and productivity.
  • Keep abreast of current changes in technology, processes, and standards within the industry and area(s) of responsibility by attending internal and external training classes, research and/or subscribing to the internet or other professional publications, or utilizing other appropriate method(s) to obtain business and professional information, and applies knowledge and practices to area(s) of responsibility.
  • Occasional travel may be required to attend business meetings, training classes, or other situations necessary for the accomplishment of some or all the daily responsibilities of this position.


  • 5+ years’ Compliance or related role in the real estate industry.
  • College degree, and/or equivalent experience is highly preferred.
  • Extensive knowledge in rent stabilization.
  • Accredited housing certification preferred: Low income Housing Tax Credit and/or Certified Occupancy Specialist.
  • Highly proficient in MS Office, ability to learn new programs.
  • Self-directed learner motivated by developing on-the-job expertise.
  • Team player that demonstrates flexibility and the ability to integrate and work well with others.
  • Detail oriented and organized.
  • Strong communication and analytical skills.
  • Creativity and initiative to work both independently as well as within a team.
  • Able to perform in a busy, changing, multi-tasking work environment.
