Compliance Specialist

Our client, a non-profit housing provider, is looking for a Compliance Specialist to join their team! The Compliance Specialist will be responsible for assigning income eligible applicants to restricted units, reviewing files, data entry, and ensuring compliance with federal, state and local laws/regulations including the LIHTC and HOME programs, as well as other federal and state assisted programs. Salary:

  • $22.00 - $25.00 per hour

Essential Functions

  • Interview and process eligible households during initial move-in, while reviewing all application and certification paperwork.
  • Approve or deny applicants based on specific program compliance for multiple sites.
  • Assist in the coordination of initial project leas-ups ensuring timely and accurate processing of applications per the regulatory agreements and Tax Credit Compliance and if applicable, Section 8 guidelines.
  • Prepare for and participate in annual compliance audits by state and local agencies.
  • Assist applicants with the preparation of Section 8 documents and high-volume scheduling with the local PHA.
  • Prepare for and participate in annual compliance audits by state and local agencies.
  • Prepare monthly reports to the Compliance Administrator regarding all move-ins for compliance purposes.
  • Coordinate duties to the Rental Office staff to ensure all vacant units are assigned and with CES to get new applicants.
  • Act as Liaison to the Housing Authority of the City of Los Angeles (HACLA) and other state and local agencies.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years’ experience in affordable housing, or Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or related area and minimum of 2 years’ experience in affordable housing
  • Must possess knowledge of LIHTC and other affordable housing Programs
  • Familiar with the use of computer programs such as Yardi, CES, and other relevant programs preferred
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse population
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedural manuals. Effectively present information and respond to questions from groups, managers, clients, residents, customers, and the general public.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations
