As the seasons change I can't help but think back at the old saying 'spring forward, fall back'. Of course this was meant to remind us to set our clocks forward 1 hour in the spring and backward 1 hour in the fall for daylight savings time. But it is also a great reminder for all of us in New Home Sales to go back to basics and continue sharpening our skills. If we do not spring forward we will fall back and that could be detrimental to our longevity within the home building industry. In 25 years of being in the home building industry I can tell you one thing I know for sure, and that is that 'I Don't Know Everything'…This is a fast paced Industry that is ever changing and constantly evolving, that is what makes it so exciting. Just when you think you know everything, everything you know changes and you have to learn and change with it. The market will change, the process of financing a Home will change, the product will change, and with each generation the buyer will change.
The day you think you know everything is the day you are committing career suicide. It is then you will be cutting yourself off from the learning and growth opportunities that will set you apart from the average salesperson and will carry you successfully into the next sales cycle.
Do you want to be a New Home Sales Super Star?? Develop a voracious appetite for a steady diet of never ending training. Read every book on sales you can, attend every sales training opportunity you can, find the most successful people in your industry and ask them lots of questions. That is how you learn….but the most important part of becoming a superstar is to to take that knowledge and put it to use in the field, practice your craft until it becomes second nature and don't ever stop seeking knowledge and looking for ways to better yourself. The best advice I can give you if you want a long career in New Home Sales is ' Never Know Everything'
